About B9 Coal
In 2009 B9 Coal was established with the objective of developing projects combining Underground Coal Gasification with Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and alkaline hydrogen fuel cells. B9 Coal believes that developing this combination of technologies will rapidly allow the generation of low carbon electricity from the world's abundant coal reserves, while minimising other environmental impacts. The process is approximately 25% less expensive in capital expenditure terms than constructing a coal fired power station whilst increasing the efficiency of conversion of the CV of the coal to buzz bar electricity and allowing 99% capture of CO2. To achieve this goal B9 Coal has already entered into an operational agreement with AFC Energy plc, developer of low temperature alkaline fuel cells, and is actively investigating potential UCG projects with Linc Energy ltd, both in the UK and world wide. B9 Coal believes that the combination of these technologies could almost eliminate CO2 emissions from coal powered electricity generation and with limited environmental impacts, compared to coal extraction and transport to a traditional power station, creates a 'Holy Grail' for coal and the transformation of coal from the dirtiest fossil fuel to the cleanest.
